Gold Fossicking in Long Creek
Long creek creates a boundary of Bushlands, near the camping area. It rises in the hills in the Pyramul direction. Clarkes creek, which runs through the gold mining district of the 1860’s, flows into Long creek near the junction of Clarkes Creek Rd, just down from Bushlands. After heavy rain the creek can rise rapidly, bringing down new deposits of gold for the fortunate ones to find (luck, hard work and some knowledge of the art of fossicking all come into play!) Many hours of relaxation can be had exploring Long Creek.
Golden & Fleece Hotel
Situated next door is the ‘Gold & Fleece Hotel’ built in 1911. Main Bar, Dining Room, Billiards area, Beer Garden and umbrella al fresco dining area. Live music weekly. Day Trips
Not far away are the old Gold towns of Sofala, Hargraves, Hill End, and Gulgong with its amazing museum and Prince of Wales Opera House, ‘Town on the $10 note’.
Mudgee
Bushlands is just 40km from Mudgee, famous for top quality wines, olives, and honey. Let us help you to organise a wine tasting tour for your group to a variety of unique wineries. Please give adequate time to make arrangements. Mudgee has many stately old buildings, a popular café district, boutique shopping and fine cuisine. Markets are held each Saturday morning.
Fishing
Fancy dropping a line? If fishing is more your idea of a great time, Windemere Dam Cudgegong River is an easy 45 minutes away and is ideal for a day’s fishing etc. Fishing is also an option at the Turon River near Hill End, and Burrendong Dam.
Bridle Track
The Bridle Track is the most well known four wheel drive track in Bathurst. Originally built as the first road between Bathurst and Hill End during the gold rush. It earned its name by due to the narrowest sections where travellers had to guide their horses by the the bridle.
